We Love Lucy!

Beautiful Lucy has been prone to ear problems ever since she came to us.  She has enlarged sweat glands in her ears that tend to block off the ear canal and lead to infection.   (These enlarged sweat glands are raised bluish balls on the inside of her ears.)  We’ve always been able to clear up infections with topical treatments… until now.

Unfortunately Lucy has infection in her left ear that is not clearing up so we took her to the vet for some answers.  We are trying some additional treatments but it looks as though further diagnostic tests will need to be done, including x-rays through a scope, a flush, and aspirate to collect a sample for biopsy.  The diagnostic tests alone will run around $600.

Our hope is that it will turn out to be a benign growth but it will still be very expensive to remove.  If it’s not removed the infection will continue and the chronic inflammation can lead to bigger problems including the possibility of the cells turning cancerous.  Very loose estimates (until we know more what the problem is) are for a surgery running around $2000-$3000 if the ear canal must be opened up to remove a benign growth.  That sort of a price tag is simply more than a small non-profit, all-volunteer organization like Purr and Wag Society can bear, especially when we have so many seniors with their various ailments of old age.

We are looking to cat lovers everywhere to help us provide Lucy the care she needs.

If just 60 people would each donate $10 then we can get Lucy’s preliminary testing done and make the best decisions as to her care.  Are you able to contribute $10 to show you love Lucy too?  We sure do thank you for anything you can offer her.

If we should be fortunate enough to get extra donations at this time we’ll set them aside for Lucy’s future surgery (if needed) or to help pay for veterinary expenses for some of the other kitties in our care.
