Good Owner Training
My goal is to educate reponsible dog owners about the neccessity of raising a good canine citizen & benefits of the camaraderie, keeping dogs out of shelters & people safe, evoking a more balanced & compassionate society.
I'm certified in Pet First Aid, through the American Red Cross, a member of APDT, active member of Animal Lifeline, Dog Scouts Troop Leader PA #158, a volunteer for PSPCA, Nick of Time Rescue and Purr and Wag Society. I've practiced agility, flyball, freestyle, obedience, rally-o, and behavior modification with a bunch of trainers in my area (and can recommend someone for almost everything). I do everything I can to learn and help and am by no means the perfect dog owner. I still need to be reminded to see through the "puppy love", making sure I don't accidentally reward her for an undesireable behavior or feel bad that "she just wants to say hi". It's easier for someone who's not already in love (or frustrated) with the dog to point out the inconspicuous little oversights. Dogs really do give us signals but can be missed because we don't know what else to look for other than those of our previous pets. I'm sure if you have kids, most of them need different approaches. They're individuals and there's a "bad breeding epidemic" these days. They're bred, sold and relinquishable like cattle. Dogs should only be bred by experienced breeders in an effort to improve the breed, not it's numbers. Breeding responsibly is NOT profitable. You'll NEVER find a well bred dog in a pet store, there's a much better chance from a shelter/rescue..
